Bridge Safety
The Bridge Commission’s first priority has always been to provide for the safety of the bridges and their users. Here’s how we put safety first:

  • Engineering inspections are done at all Commission bridges and facilities on an annual basis—exceeding Federal and State requirements
  • Any necessary repairs are systematically designed, planned, and executed
  • We have a full-time, on-site resident engineer who is intimately familiar with our bridges
  • Tens of millions of dollars in necessary bridge repairs have been made to date

Bridge Openings
Federal law requires the Commission to conduct bridge openings when requested by vessels, upon “demand,” regardless of time of day, even if it occurs in rush hour traffic. In 2007, there were a total of 1870 bridge openings at all of the bridges.

Tolls
The Commission's stated mission is to provide Burlington County’s residents, commuters, and visitors with safe, accessible, and affordable bridges, roads, and facilities. Tolls are charged on the Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges. The Commission also maintains non-toll roads and bridges (Riverside-Delanco Bridge, Pennsauken Creek Bridge, Route 73 Overpass, Pompeston Creek Bridge, Swede Run Bridge, and Twin Pipe Culvert.)

EZ Pass
We accept EZPass at our Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges!

Still the "Best Bargain Around"
Tolls on our two bridges haven’t increased in eleven years!
